Carl Leubsdorf

Carl Leubsdorf, Jr. is Founder and CEO of Solvitor LLC, a web and technology strategy consultancy. Since 2014, Solvitor's focus has been the development of a next-generation web and API experience for customers of the National Library of Medicine's National Center for Biotechnology Information. From 2010 to 2014, Solvitor provided Senior Program Advisory services for the National Institutes of Health, Center for Information Technology, Division of Enterprise and Custom Applications, Integrated Services Center. (CIT/ISC), and significantly Increased system availability for NIH Login, providing up to 99.99% availability of this core enterprise service. While at CIT, Solvitor also served as lead technical advisor for Cloud technologies for the NIH CIO, managed the migration of the NIH Director’s Blog (directorsblog.nih.gov) from a federally-hosted data center to a cloud-hosted Software-as-a-Service provider, and built a custom online virtual meeting application based on WordPress to support genomic data access request decision-making by the Advisory Council for the Director, NIH (helaacd.nih.gov). In November, 2011, Solvitor launched Annotum (annotum.org), an open-source scholarly peer-review and publishing system based on WordPress. Annotum provides high-level editing features and robust XML output that conforms to the National Library of Medicine’s Journal Article (XML) Tag Suite in a simple to operate, easy to use, web-based system. Annotum provides journal-hosting capabilities for a wide range of educational and scholarly institutions worldwide. Annotum was devised, designed, and architected by Solvitor, with coding by Crowd Favorite, and was selected by Google as the successor to Google's Knol article publishing service. To date, Annotum has been downloaded more than 210,000 times from the WordPress.org theme repository. Prior to founding Solvitor, Carl served as the senior vice president and general manager for Match.com’s Asia Pacific business, and as International CTO of Match.com for its most significant growth period in history. Previously, Carl was a Senior IT consultant for the Center for Information Technology, National Institutes of Health, and senior director, software at The Motley Fool, where he built a custom content management solution to publish hundreds of news articles monthly. Carl received his bachelor’s degree from the University of New Hampshire, Whittemore School of Business and Economics, and an Economics M.A. from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
